Unrelated, but may i ask if you found probutyrate vs tribyutrinx clinically , whether one is more beneficial over the others. Thanks

Lucy Mailing, PhD's avatar

I've experienced both to be effective, though some people do respond better to one or another!

Thanks for responding. After asking this this question i noticed that the probutyrate states 300mg for their proprietary matrix complex , so i wonder how much butyric acid actually in each capsule.....

Thanks.

I started taking creatine monohydrate six months ago (1/2 t every morning). For years, my bowel cycle was every two days, but for the past four or five years it started to increase to every three days, and often every four days. The VERY NEXT DAY after I started taking creatine, my bowel cycle returned to its old two-day cycle and has stayed at that rate ever since, with only a few exceptions. I'm male, 60 years old. I have a relatively sedentary lifestyle (desk work), and I notice that even with the creatine, if I don't walk two miles a day, my bowel cycle slows. But I've been walking two miles a day for the last five years, and the walking alone had no effect on my bowel cycle. I've always eaten a high fiber, mostly vegetarian diet. There's no doubt in my mind that I was creatine deficient. I suspect it had something to do with developing my mild IBS symptoms starting about 20 years ago.

Sorry one more question in a previous post you said ButyroseR Lsc

Microcaps-BLM study increased butyrate producing bacteria. Would AuRX have the same effect? Thanks!

Lucy Mailing, PhD's avatar

Yes, AuRx should have a similar effect! It's also got no fillers, whereas the Butyrose LSC Microcaps has several, so I prefer it to the Butyrose.

Hi Lucy. When is the next Q & A, please?

Lucy Mailing, PhD's avatar

There will be a Q&A announced later this month :)

Thanks Lucy.

You know, I would be interested in working with you. My only hesitation is that I know my Crohn's situation/symptoms is complex and a 'consultation' by itself won't be nearly enough. Can we communicate re: the Premium Retainer Program or some other multi-appointment arrangement where I would agree to a minimum guaranteed cost for some multiple number of appointments, but something other than $700 for each appt?

My email is hoopss4@aol.com.

Thanks again Lucy,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner via email. Most of my clients are complex cases and I am often able to provide a lot of direction in 1-2 appointments. I will often give you several months worth of ideas to try on your own in the initial consultation.

The Premium Retainer Program is high-touch and therefore a much more significant investment. If you're interested in that, you can book an initial consult and we can discuss at the end if you are a good fit for it.

Kind regards,

Lucy

Dr James Kinross, gastroentologist and microbiome researcher said we should stay away from creatine powders which disrupt the microbiome in an article today about colon cancer. So I’m very confused!

Lucy Mailing, PhD's avatar

My guess is he was talking about protein powders, not creatine. Clinically, I have seen protein powders (especially plant-based ones like pea protein) to be a cause of constipation and other IBS-type symptoms.

Jeff Berkowitz's avatar

As per your previous recommendation Lucy, I have been on Creatine (5 g daily), Mitochondrial support supplement, SBI supplement and glutamine (5-10 mg/day) in addition to several other supplements like liposomal Glutathione, Curcumin and Coq10, etc. Unfortunately, no effect on my excessive overnight and morning BM's. I have Crohn's but am in remission - even though remission has had no effect on these symptoms, strange!

Hi Jeff – I’m sorry to hear optimizing cellular energy hasn’t offered relief for you. I’d encourage you to consider some of the other root causes I talk about at the end of this article: https://lucymailing.substack.com/p/time-for-a-new-chapter-focused-on. I’d also be happy to consult with you if you’d like some help figuring out what might be going on.

...I posted in wrong paragraph - Lucy please see my recent 2nd post about working with you (above).

Great article, Lucy!

One correction:

Under Section 6, a small pilot trial at the University of Colorado is mentioned but appears to have been withdrawn.

Good catch, thanks! Bummer to see that they aren't recruiting anymore. I've edited accordingly.
